Darren's wheels

Hi my name is Kim and I am starting a GoFundMe for my grandson Darren. Darren is 11 years old and has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne is a progressive fatal illness that effects boys with an average life expectancy of 18. Most boys with Duchenne are in a wheelchair full-time by the age 12. Darren is in his 85% if the time now. Darren's quality of life is rapidly decreasing. He is in desperate need of a wheelchair van so that he can be transported in his wheelchair. Without a wheelchair van the only place Darren will go is to school and back. Darren has frequent Dr visits at Boston children's hospital as well as locally in Western Ma. A wheelchair van will also give Darren the ability to live a life outside of his home. Darren will become trapped in his own body and this wheelchair van will give him the freedom to leave his home to visit family and friends and to go to places most of us go to freely. Darren's parents (my son) Steven and Mary tirelessly care for Darren's every day needs. Steven is only able to work part time due to Darren's needs. The cost of all the equipment Darren needs is more then most families could ever afford and not being able to work full-time makes it impossible. There a some grants that can be applied to the cost of the van but there is a remaining balance not covered. We are asking for anyone who can please donate to do so. We are hoping to get the deficit between the cost of the van and the grants covered plus the insurance. We thank everyone for their support and help.
