Darren Tate's Tragic Loss of Vision
Donation protected
We, as a family, are starting this fund to help Darren Tate.
Recently, Darren, 54 years old, was diagnosed w/Fuchs Dystrophy in both eyes (This is a degenerative disease, which attacks the cells in the cornea eventually causing the loss of vision). His doctors advised him he needed a cornea transplant. Darren did have the transplant and the procedure went very well. However, he contracted a bacterial infection (Class A Strep), which is rare. Due to the severity of the infection, he had to have another surgical procedure; a vitrectomy. It was done to remove the infected vitreous material in his eye. This whole process has left him extremely sick and in extreme pain w/little to no vision remaining in his right eye. Darren's other eye is compromised and failing as well and has slight vision before he becomes blind in that one too. This has forever altered his life!
This has devastated Darren and his wife Shelly. They had hoped, as we all did, for a positive outcome. As a result of these unfortunate circumstances, Darren is unable to work at this time. He has helped take care of his wife as she has battled rheumatoid arthritis for the past few years. She takes strong medications to keep it from progressing. They are challenged by the realization that there will be more doctors' visits, potential surgeries in the future, continued treatments and not being able to work. Darren has worked in IT communications for many years.
Darren and Shelly are loving, caring and generous people. They are responsible for other family members as well. They are also parents and grandparents. Their struggles are many and as you can see, they need our assistance. This fund will aid in the mounting medical bills and living expenses. We appreciate your love, support and prayers. We can't do this alone. We're asking for your help! No amount is too small!!
We will continue to post updates on his recovery
Thank you so much,
