If you are a friend or relative of Debbie’s, lucky you. If not, I hope you have someone like her in your life who makes you smile just by showing up. Debbie has a boundless heart and unlimited kindness. She is one of the funniest people on the planet and her joy in life is infectious.
Debbie and her family need help.
In October 2017 she began to have odd symptoms. Pain and tingling in her hands dramatically worsened over the next 6 months to the point where she was falling, suffering debilitating fatigue, and declining fast. After extensive testing she was finally diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP). CIDP is a neurological autoimmune disorder that damages the myelin sheath of the peripheral nerves. This means that Debbie’s immune system is attacking itself creating crippling fatigue and eventually leading to debilitating conditions.
The initial treatment was plasma exchange which required a 10 day stay in the hospital. The plasma exchange was successful at stopping the progression of the disease and has allowed Debbie’s body to begin to heal. However, the chronic nature of CIDP often requires long- term care. She is currently receiving ongoing IVIG treatments and will eventually begin drug therapy to regulate her immune system. This is not an easy road that she is on, every patient is different. There are no clear answers and many, many questions.
Although we are all feeling positive and hopeful by how well Debbie has responded to the therapies, there is still a long road ahead. All the treatments being done are to get the disease to go into remission. It is now a waiting game with uncertain outcomes. While everyone believes that remission is possible, it’s important to be realistic and recognize that the treatments and medications may be required for a long time. The Tysingers need help dealing with the present and preparing for the long term.
Debbie is an AMAZING massage therapist. There might be a disease that could be worse for a person who works so lovingly with her hands, but we suspect it would be hard to name. She has been unable to do her work for some time and is only now beginning to creep back into a very limited schedule. That limited schedule will need to continue so she can heal which means her income and her ability to meet her medical and living expenses will be seriously impacted.
Debbie is a deep well of support and love. She is also eternally optimistic, no big surprise.
She has provided for so many and now it is her turn. Her family needs help in meeting the medical expenses to date and making up for the loss of income that may be permanent. This is a family of modest means, simple lifestyle, and abundant kindness for others. Please give what you can to support Debbie and her family so she can focus on recovery and remission. The world is a better place with Debbie Tysinger in it. We need her healthy and happy. Thank you for your support.
