Helping Shawna and Her Family

Donation protected

This is Shawna's story.  She did not ask me to put up a Go Fund Me page for her, and was very hesitant to accept help. These, however, are her own words, and I am using them here, with her permission.

"I am a mother to 2 amazing children and 2 step children, I am a wife, I am a daughter, I am a sister, I am an aunt, I am strong....unfortunately strong people need help sometimes too.

I was very close to my grandmother, but unfortunately I got her genes as well. She had a mastectomy from breast cancer at a young age - I am a lot like my angel grandmother in many ways, but I too have that "mean gene" after having had multiple MRI's, ultrasounds, biopsies and follow ups, etc... my surgeon, husband and I decided a double mastectomy is the best route at this time to stop the progression of breast cancer hitting at any time.

Right now I am holding down three jobs, as a nail technician, working in urgent care at a local clinic, and driving a refreshment golf cart for the summer.  I am doing these three jobs, not just because I like, it but to save for after the surgery coming up early this fall.

The Susan G. Coleman Foundation is great but only has so many funds to help out the thousands of woman battling this awful cancer. So we can't rely on them.

The Go Fund Me money would help my family of 6 get by while I am not working, and the cost of the procedures that are not covered.

I will not know about any active disease or the progression of anything until the surgery is actually being performed. If anything is found during the surgery, I will then need further treatments with chemo and radiation. We are praying for the best and it will be a simple mastectomy.....

It all started with a small breast lump a little over a year ago....that small breast lump triggered docs to do a pap test. I ended up having a hysterectomy to prevent  a worse outcome.  This Go Fund Me effort isn't just to raise money, but also raise awareness for women to get their annual check ups and do self breast exams

It is very hard to share all this. But even if people don't donate- maybe it will save a life. And bring out awareness."

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for reading Shawna's story, and for helping her and her family in any way you can. Every dollar counts... as do your prayers,
Susan Hass
