Daughter newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes

Donation protected
Hey there. On Friday December 23rd, my 9-year-old daughter was found in our bathroom on the floor unresponsive. She was rushed to the emergency room and admitted to the children’s pediatric intensive care unit. It was determined that day that our lives would be forever changed. She has type 1 diabetes and was in diabetic keto acidosis. Her sugar levels were through the roof and her body had shut down. The emergency doctor told us that this is how most parents find out their kids have diabetes. It’s a horrible way, in my opinion. We spent the entire weekend in the hospital and got to come home Christmas afternoon. Yay!! The medical bills for this are going to be insane and the continuous care I have to give for her right now is a lot for one person to handle. I’m a single mom to seven, 5 still at home. While we have been super strong about the entire situation, I am terrified that I’m not going to be able to afford all the doctors' visits, labs, medicines, new diet foods (not like actual diet but healthier) and everything else that comes with this. Actually, I already feel like a failure because she has to go to work with me due to nobody being able to dose her insulin. No offense to her older brothers, but it’s a bit of math and a lot of knowing exactly what to do in every situation. One wrong dose can be very bad for her. Her continuous monitor and pump won’t be available to us for a while until we figure out what her ratio of insulin is and is set in stone. Even then, it’s only if I can afford it. I hate asking for help but, I really don’t know how I’m going to make it this first year. I work very hard just to afford the regular bills. We don’t qualify for state assistance because I “make too much”. They go off of gross income, not net unfortunately. Anything helps at this point as we begin our new journey and hope to spread awareness of juvenile type 1 diabetes. Something she will have for the rest of her life. I by no means expect to raise $10,000, I just picked a number because I'm unsure of how much things are going to cost. I appreciate all of you taking the time to read this and hope you have a blessed year. Hug the ones you love tightly and smile to a stranger. Kindness matters.
