Dave Hawkins medical expenses

My name is Darla, and my family has once again been hit with the dreadful word “Cancer”. My mom has spent the last two years battling breast and ovarian cancer. She still has treatments that keep her home and unable to work, as well as ongoing appointments and tests. One week ago today we found out my dad, Dave, had a mass in his throat at the base of his tongue. It was effecting his eating and talking. After meeting with a specialist last Wednesday (December 7th) we found out it was in his lymph nodes and the cancer very well could be in other places in his body. A pet scan was scheduled for this week to check and see if there is cancer anywhere else but unfortunately my dad did not make it to that point. On Friday, he started bleeding from his mouth (the tumor more specifically) and he had to be rushed to the hospital where he lost a significant amount of blood. He was later transferred to a different hospital where he underwent surgery to remove the tumor. Surgery went well but unfortunately they were not able to remove the entire tumor and he had to have a trache put in. He was admitted to the ICU directly after surgery, not allowing any visitors, not able to talk, and barely able to eat. Since surgery, doctors have made the decision to place a feeding tube so he will undergo another surgery before being able to come home with hospice/home health do to his medical needs. Fortunately my mom is able to be his primary caregiver with her career history in the medical field and my sisters, myself, and my niece which hopefully will save them some money. As many of you know my dad has worked his body to its core. He’s provided for our family day in and day out. He has been my moms rock during her battle with cancer and neither of them deserve what is happening. This is leaving both of my parents battling cancer together. We still have to wait for my dad to receive his pet scan to see if the cancer is anywhere as well as results from the biopsy of the tumor in his throat. He will be starting radiation treatments sometime in the very near future. It’s been a lot to process in just one week. In just one week our whole worlds have been turned completely upside down. My dad was their main source of income as my mom recieves very litte from disability. This is the worse possible timing for any of this and I do not want my mom to feel any worse when bills start coming in as they are still paying on her expenses from her surgery. Right now we arent sure when my dad will be home, what treatments are going to look like, etc. Anything helps. Thank you to everyone who has continued to reach out. I will update as much as I can when we get any news or plans in place.
