Dave has always had tremendous love and support for his faithful and hard-working subcontractors. He helped many start off on their own businesses and supported them all along the way. They, in turn, were extremely loyal to him and were key to helping him grow his business over the years.
Some of the most heart-touching moments we’ve had over the last weeks have come from those he helped over the years, some for decades, who called to say goodbye and to thank Dave for all he’s done for them… and tell great stories. He did so many things to help that we didn’t even know about. It brought tears to our family’s eyes.
As many, Landmark’s business imploded during the financial crisis, a very hard landing. After losing everything, Dave set out to learn, rebuild and prevent that from ever happening again. He taught himself everything he could about creating “financial security” — how to build long-term savings and the importance of compounding interest! And like everything Dave loved, he obsessed about it. . And started to teach everyone who’d listen how to achieve that goal of a safe future. His sons and their spouses, his grandkids and helped our Housekeeper. He’d slip in: “Are you doing anything to build up a nest egg?”
With that, we wanted to honor Dave’s passion… and bottle it. People ask how they can help us, about a charity they can give to, etc. We don’t need flowers or food…have plenty filling the house. Instead, we’ve started a GoFundMe education account — The Landmark Homes Keystone Project — to help directly provide financial security education to his hard-working, self-employed subcontractors. Dave would like that.
We want this fund to provide financial planning assistance to his trusted guys. The subcontractor’s life is going from job to job, not thinking about down the road. Our goal is to raise money to provide a resource to these hard-working folks so they can start to build a secure future. Nothing major, just simple tricks that Dave learned on how to save the pennies and dollars so they can add up to something substantial. So if you want to continue his legacy of support, here’s the link.
Thanks for your love.
