Dave Mathewson

This is for you, Dave Mathewson!

On March 22, 2023 we lost this amazing man who suffered a massive heart attack doing exactly what he loved. This has been devastating for all who were close to him. We are never prepared for these moments and now we are asking you for your help and your generosity for his daughter Daria Mathewson.

I have known and been a part of the Mathewson family for almost 46 years. My name is Melissa Murphy St Onge I met Dave for the first time in Windsor. Dave and his father David Mathewson were my figure skating coaches in Windsor. Eventually, I became Dave’s roommate along with his two brothers Devan and Darin in their family home in Windsor and Scarborough.

During the years, Dave became for me personally an amazing Coach friend mentor brother and family member. Dave will always be remembered for his wild and crazy ideas and the biggest heart there ever was. He would do anything for you. He was always there for you but sadly he will be terribly missed !

Dave has coached Figure skating and Power Skating for the past 45 years. He has devoted his life to these two sports, and has given everything he possibly can to any student in front of him.

Dave started his career coaching in Windsor, then moving to the Scarbrough area, then making his way back to Windsor /Chatham area then eventually making his way down to the Niagara region for a better part of 15 years of Daria’s upbringing and for the past few years made his way back to Toronto area to be closer to his daughter.

For all who have known Dave, knew how much the dollar value was never important to him - getting truly paid for coaching was not high on his priority list - he taught, he coached, he just loved giving and helping, and watching all of our children succeed, and pushing everyone to be the best they could be!

But now we need your help for Daria . Dave was a single parent with his amazing daughter who was the world to him . Daria Mathewson will be only 24 years old next month and will have a life without the one and only person that was her family . The guy that we all have known and cherished for so many years. Who has given us so much .

Please help us in setting up a memorial fund for the one person that he loved more than anything in this world. Help us give her just a little peace of mind. I volunteer to set up this fund as I truly believe that all of us are truly grateful to have had the honour to meet such an amazing person that was so humble in every way and that never wanted anything from anyone except friendship and happiness.

In honour of Dave, please help his amazing daughter. Let's give Daria a little peace of mind during these difficult times in her life. If Dave made a little difference in your life or the life of your child, we are asking for your help.
