Help Dave Ball Fight GBS

Dave is in intensive care unit (ICU) in a hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was on a Panama cruise with Alta and got Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) after a bout with flu which turned into pneumonia. Alta was able to get him a transport (2 boats and 1 plane flight) from a small island in the Bahamas to the Mainland U.S. so he could receive medical care . GBS is a syndrome where the body fights off a viral infection and then keeps fighting and damages the nerve fluids so that the body becomes paralyzed. The doctors have confirmed this early diagnosis and said Dave has a severe form of it. He cannot move or make any indications that he can hear us and cannot open his eyes. It is expected he will need ICU care for 3 months. The doctors have said it will take 3-6 months for Dave to recover enough to begin physical therapy. As we have new updates we'll post and let you know. There are some videos and article posted below with more info on GBS.

As home is in Washington state for Alta and Dave, we asked if flying him home is feasible. The doctors said it would cost $30,000 to fly him and an RV transport is not recommended. The best place is for him to 'stay put' for now.

Needs:
We're asking for the following in this 'Help Dave Fight GBS' call--

1. Help with accomodations - do you know of someone in Fort Lauderdale with a room, condo or apartment to rent?

2. Help with costs:

a. Transport costs from Bahamas to the Mainland was $11,600 that Alta had to pay up front. We do not know if Medical will cover this at all (not expected).

b. Lodging for 6 months

c. Transportation costs for 6 months (Alta is riding the bus currently, but we'd like to have funds available if she needs to rent a car for special care for Dave)

d. Other/Food/Travel costs for Alta while in Florida and for return trips to take care of their business

We may have more requests as Dave heals and starts rehabilitation in the coming weeks/months.
