Dave Dugan's battle with Cancer
Donation protected
A week ago today David Edward Dugan entered into the hospice of Southwest, OH. A few days later he passed at 8:46am on the morning of Thursday, September 17th. 2015.
Before Dave's final breaths, he was surrounded by his family and closest friends. His wife, Joan, of almost 31 years of marriage, and his children; Ryan, Sean, and Bridget.
The sun was shining in through the window and in a very odd coincidence and maybe a sign of God, a Budweiser truck pulled up in the parking lot next door. (Picture attached)
Dave was diagnosed with AML or Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a form of blood cancer during late April of this year.
Just a day before Dave learned about his condition, he was at work, building a deck (and working other projects) until finally the fatigue had knocked him off his feet. No one knows how long Dave may have been dealing with his condition, simply because his typical cure for fatigue was a no-quit attitude and the rewarding taste of a Bud after a long hard days work.
Dave endured several months and multiple rounds of chemotherapy. He was at multiple hospitals and even traveling to evaluate and exhaust every option for a cure. During all of this he and his family never lost faith nor the desire to continue to fight. Dave refused to have a bad attitude or to turn negative to his situation. That just wasn't Dave.
Dave was a family man. A man of integrity, honesty, and the hardest worker most of us have ever seen or known. Number one was supporting his family and friends, anything else came second. He never chased fortune or fame, rather built relationships of gold. He saw the good in each person and brought out the best in everyone he touched. He was the kind of guy who would talk to anyone, it simply didn't matter who you were.
In the short time he was able to escape the hospital during his treatment, he enjoyed spending time at home with his wife, his kids and his friends. Neighbors like Andy, Drew and Dan who were stopping over to catch up on old times and help around the house, along with many others. Any chance Dave had to get outside to see the sun and hang out on the back deck was a good day.
A few things said over the past week I thought should be shared:
"When Dave asked how you were, he meant it and he cared. He knew your kids names..." - Andy Hickman, close friend and neighbor of 20+ years
"Dave knew everyone in New Jersey and half of Ohio."
-Al, his brother-in-law during a very well said eulogy.
"Dave had the incredible ability to make you feel significant, especially when you doubted yourself"
-Drew, close friend and neighbor of 20+ years
As many of you may know having experienced something simliar with a family member or a friend, there has been and continue to be many financial challenges. I'd like you all to consider making a small donation to help the family with their expenses at this time.
If you would like additional information, please feel free to contact me directly by responding to this post.
Thank you to everyone for your help and support during these past few months. It has certainly been noticed and appreciated by the family.
