Active 20-30 Santa Rosa #50 is asking all the members of Active 20-30 to help out a Past Active and his family in their time of need.
Dave Jones-Landry is a past president of Santa Rosa #50 (Spring 2012) and a last year was recognized at our 85th Annual Gala as a Past Active member. Dave was only in the club for approximately 6 years, but in that time exemplified what it meant to serve the children of Sonoma County. Dave was dedicated to the Club and his passion was putting on work projects that directly benefitted kids. To that end, he chaired Challenger Little League, Children’s Museum BBQ, the Roseland Playground work project and several Kids’ Street Learning Center work projects. When he aged out of the Club, Dave kept on helping by serving on the Board for the Kid’s Street Learning Center.
What many people don’t know was that Dave’s passion for helping kids came from his own experience as a child that suffered a bout with lymphoma that left Dave’s heart with some lasting damage. Several years ago Dave needed to have a pacemaker installed to help regulate his heart. About three months ago, it was discovered that Dave’s heart valves were failing and needed to be replaced immediately. Dave underwent emergency surgery to replace the valves.
Unfortunately, Dave’s recovery has not gone well. Dave suffered from an infection after the surgery and now he needs to have surgery again to replace the heart valves and the pacemaker. In addition, due to the massive antibiotics needed to fight the infection, Dave’s kidneys and liver nearly shut down. He is currently in the ICU at UCSF and will likely be there for the foreseeable future.
Dave is married and has two little girls, Farah (5) and Daisy (2). Last year, Dave’s wife Elise had a cancer scare and went through surgery. Santa Rosa #50 “passed the hat” and and provided meals to help the family through that difficult time. This crisis is much more severe. Dave is the primary breadwinner and has been out of work for several months. His recovery will likely take six months to a year.
Santa Rosa #50 is reaching out to all the members of our 20-30 family to help this Past Active member. We have set a modest goal of $2030 to help them out, but our hope is to significantly exceed that amount. Any amount will help us reach our goal. Thank you.
