Dave's Fundraising Run From Navan to Donegal

Donation protected
Dave Tyrrell, a Navan local, is embarking on a momentous run from Navan to Donegal on September 28th to raise funds for two organizations close to his heart: SOSAD Ireland and Meath River Rescue. After loosing a close friend, Dave experienced a rapid decline in his mental health, battling severe anxiety, depression, and addiction. Seeking help from SOSAD, he discovered the power of counseling. At that time, his partner also introduced him to running as an alternitive form of therapy.

Dave felt the therapeutic benefits of running. He found a supportive community at Navan AC, where he discovered his love for the newfound passion. With each step, he felt a sense of control over his mental health, using running as a vital tool to maintain balance and gain control of negative emotions.

Having already completed a marathon for Meath River Rescue in 2018, Dave made the decision to undertake this epic run during a visit to Donegal, a place he has grown to love. The ambitious 48h journey covers a total distance of 227km, with Dave splitting the running into 3 stages.

Through his remarkable challenge, Dave aims to spread a powerful message that no one is alone, and there is always hope even in the darkest times.

All proceeds will be going directly to SOSAD Ireland and Meath River Rescue.

By donating to Dave's cause, you can make a difference in the lives of those in need. Let's come together and support Dave as he takes on this challenge. Your contribution will help both organisations, SOSAD Ireland and Meath River Rescue to continue providing support within our local comunities.

Let's take a closer look at each stage of this incredible challenge:

Stage 1 (77km): Starting at 12pm on Thursday, September 28th, Dave will leave the boathouse in Navan and make his way towards the Windtown Road, continuing straight to Carlanstown. From Carlanstown, he will run through Moynalty and proceed to Baileborough. Finally, he will head straight over to Cootehill and continue on to Clones, where he will stop for the night. This stage is estimated to take approximately 9 hours.

Stage 2 (90km): Beginning at 6am on Friday, September 29th, Dave will depart from Clones. His route will lead him along Cooneen Road to Fivemiletown, then onward to Dromore and Drumquin. From Drumquin, he will head towards Castlederg and ultimately complete stage 2 in Ballybofey, Donegal. This part of the journey is expected to take around 12 hours.

Stage 3 (60km): On Saturday morning, between 3-5am, Dave will start the final stage from Ballybofey. He will make his way towards Cloghan and pass through Drumnaha, then continue on to Finntown. From Finntown, it's a direct route to Dungloe, followed by a straight run to Carrickfinn beach, where Dave aims to arrive by 12pm on Saturday, September 30th. This stage is estimated to take approximately 9 hours.
