David and Olivia Shirey Cancer Fund

Dear Family and Friends,

          In 2020, my brother David Shirey, was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon-Rectal Cancer. At that time, I set up a Go Fund Me account for David and Olivia's family to help them manage the financial crisis of David being unable to work while he underwent extensive chemotherapy, radiation and then surgery in September of 2021. David, Olivia, and their three daughters were provided for financially through those hard months of treatment by your amazing response and generous gifts! In the spring of 2022, David was feeling better and was able to secure several part-time jobs, which along with Olivia's part-time job, provided for their families financial needs. He was working and waiting for the one-year mandatory wait to re-apply for his commercial pilots license after chemotherapy.

          However, sadly in July of 2022, scans showed that two nodules located in both lungs were growing and David's cancer numbers were up, indicating recurrence... David is now on a rigorous 4 drug chemo treatment which occurs every other Tuesday. The doctors have decided that he will need 12 of these series. The drugs render him unable to do much but sit and rest due to severe nausea and weakness for about a week; then he begins to feel better about 3-4 days before it is time to get another dose. The chemo will also have an accumulative effect as the treatments continue, possibly causing delays in treatment from low blood work counts. This schedule makes it almost impossible to do a regular job.

           We have decided to restart the Go Fund Me account for this reason and try to raise additional financial help for this faithful family. They need us to come alongside them in their difficult journey, so paying the bills is not another worry they will have to bear. We believe the Lord is in control of every situation, and He has David, Olivia, Vanessa, Alina and Sofia in His hands! We are humbly asking you, our dearest family and friends, to be the hands and feet of Christ once again by giving and helping this precious family to win their courageous battle against cancer! We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!
