David Bachman and Family

In 2003, my mother met a wonderful man who became my stepfather a few years later. With that marriage, I gained a stepbrother, David. Since then, we have shared family picnics, holidays, birthdays, and wonderful summer pool days. David and his wife Jennie, who celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary this year, fit in so easily with my sister, Denise, and me. Ten years ago, they welcomed a baby girl, Sophia. She is the perfect addition to our crew.

Over the summer, we received terrible news. David was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. This rare type of cancer affects the part of the throat connecting the back of the nose to the back of the mouth. In the United States, annually, there are less than 7 cases per million people. This is often an aggressive form of cancer, so we knew David would have a tough road ahead. David has had eight weeks of chemotherapy and radiation. He has now moved on to a new chemotherapy plan, hoping to shrink the cancer. His lymph nodes have been affected.

The chemotherapy has eliminated David’s ability to work. His family is starting to feel the monetary pressure that impacts all families in similar medical situations. We all prepare for illnesses and emergencies; however, no one can easily afford cancer (especially when they lose so much of their income). While David continues to fight the fight of his life, our family wants to help ease their burdens as much as possible. Jennie and Sophia are fighting this fight with him and need our support. Jennie continues to work as much as possible while David’s mother, Maria, my stepfather, John, and his cousin Tyler help care for David and get him to his treatments. If there is any amount you can donate, no amount is too small. Anything can help. Please continue to pray for David, Jennie, and Sophia, along with Maria, John, and Bonnie.
