David Berry’s Pediatric Cancer Research Fundraiser
Tax deductible
My name is David Berry and I am an 8th grader at Missoula International School. I want to start off by saying how grateful I am for everybody who is considering a donation. I chose to organize this fundraiser because pediatric cancer has affected my family along with 16,000 other families in the US each year.
Through my research I learned that most of the standard cancer treatements were discovered over twenty years ago. That said, I also learned that because of major treament advances in recent decades, 85% of children with cancer now survive five years or more after their diagnosis. However, 66% of cancer survivors develop chronic health conditions because of standard cancer treatments. It is my hope that further research and technology can greater reduce cancer deaths.
By donating to my fundraiser, you will be supporting the nonprofit, the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). The Children’s Oncology Group, a National Cancer Institute supported clinical trials group, is the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research. The COG unites more than 10,000 experts in childhood cancer at more than 200 leading children’s hospitals, universities, and cancer centers across North America, Australia, and New Zealand in the fight against childhood cancer. The Children’s Oncology Group has nearly 100 active clinical trials open at any given time. These trials include front-line treatment for many types of childhood cancers, studies aimed at determining the underlying biology of these diseases, and trials involving new and emerging treatments, supportive care, and survivorship.
All of the funding received from your generosity, will be directly linked to The Children’s Oncology Group.
On February 23rd at 6:30pm, I will be hosting a talent show at Free Cycles in Missoula. Attendance is free and I would love to see you there.
Thank you so much.
