As some of you may already know, David has been facing several health
challenges since January of 2021 when he, unfortunately, suffered a heart attack.
On his road to recovery from the heart attack, David started experiencing
unexplained aches, pains and other mysterious symptoms increasing in severity. Despite numerous doctor's visits in Kenora, he could not find the answer until October of 2021 when David was diagnosed in Thunder Bay with Multiple Myeloma.
Multiple Myeloma is a type of bone marrow cancer.
Multiple Myeloma is a type of bone marrow cancer.
Since the time of his heart attack, David has been unable to work, although the staff and his business partner have been doing an incredible job keeping the high school cafeterias running smoothly.
After months of chemotherapy, Dave traveled to Ottawa for a stem cell transplant in February. After suffering from some initial complications he is at home in Kenora. David is now set to undergo on an ongoing costly oral cancer treatment. He will soon be starting medication that costs thousands of dollars, and his insurance has declined coverage as his yearly limit is only $10,000.
His medical team in Thunder Bay are pursuing some financial aid through Trillium and other government agencies.

Any money raised in this Go Fund Me will go towards the cost of medications,
rehabilitation therapy, mobility aids, home modifications, airfare and
accommodations for David and a support person to travel for treatment to Thunder Bay, Ottawa and Winnipeg.
As a result of cancer and crushed vertebrae, Dave is often in significant pain.
When flying to appointments, he pays more money for an extra space seat that allows him
to maneuver more easily, making it possible to tolerate transportation.
You may know David as co-owner of the Greek Monster Café
(the cafeterias at Beaver Brae and St. Thomas Aquinas High Schools), through
Harbourfest or his love of racehorses. Whatever the
circumstance, anyone who has had an opportunity to meet Dave knows that he
loves his community and that he has actively supported and invested in it his
whole life.
Let’s show him the same support in return.
David has a long road to recovery, but he is strong and fighting.
Let’s show him that he is not in this fight alone.
