David Bruce Levine Memorial Fund

I am a licensed private detective in Florida.  I first met David Bruce Levine four years ago while vacationing in South Florida and visiting Hollywood's entertainment district.  Mr. Levine was a caricature artist who would always stop me and ask to pet my German Shepherd Dogs when in downtown Hollywood.  Invariably, no matter how tired from hours of drawing and trying to get passersbys to sit for a portrait, he'd kneel to pet my dogs and struggle back to his feet; he was seventy years old and had long been in frail health.  On January 15th, 2021, he was lugging his cart with chairs, a table and his art supplies back to his small apartment when he was assaulted by persons unknown just a few feet from his home.  Mr. Levine was rendered unconscious and when he came to managed to make his way back to his apartment.  Police were called and medical crews arrived and transported him to the hospital where he remained for one week before he finally expired.  Mr. Levine had meager resources and no immediate family, so I am working to locate more distant relatives to tend to his final affairs and get his house in order, as they say.  It is my hope that the community of which he was such a pleasant and beloved member will help raise funds for his funeral expenses, as well as a simple service to honor his memory, a tasteful stone marker for his final resting place and fees for its maintenance, and lastly a bronze marker to be laid in the sidewalk near where he sat and drew crowds as he made skillful caricatures of those he met here in Hollywood for over forty years.  If there is more left over, I'd ask that it be turned over to the Hollywood Arts Park to be used in promoting the arts.  I think he would have liked that.  I will not be accepting any of the proceeds for myself.  Thank you for giving, and please leave a kind note to his memory.  David was quiet and respectful and is now much missed when I pass those places on Hollywood Boulevard where he did his art.
