David Cink (Kind, loving and deserving)

My son, David, had 3 Grand Mal seizures back to back over the weekend. He has been admitted to KU Medical Center and will be here for awhile, we're not sure how long. He has aphasia, meaning he has lost some of his ability to express speech, and neuropathy on his right side mostly in his right arm. Every problem is being caused by a glioma found on the left side of his brain, in his parietal lobe, and the mass has pushed the midline of his brain to the right causing pressure on areas that control his speech and facial/hand and arm functions for the right side of his body. We were originally told months ago that the mass in his head was millimeter by millimeter and was causing swelling in his brain. We have learned that the mass is over an inch in diameter now. He is on a couple anti-convulsants, steroids, and a nerve pain medication. Due to his tumor he will be going through Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments. If his speech improves he will be able to have brain surgery to remove 80% of the tumor, if his speech does not improve they will not be able to do such an aggressive procedure as he will have to be awake and aware for part of the operation. If they cannot do surgery they will biopsy the mass and hope that Chemotherapy and Radiation will reduce the size. Due to the worsening of his seizures, the lack of motor skills and speech function he will be unable to work for quite some time. When he is eventually discharged he will need 24/7 care/supervision. His medical team has approved him for disability but we are still waiting on the state to accept or deny the request. If approved, his disability payments will take 6 to 9 months to kick in. He has a long road ahead of him still full of uncertainty. Meanwhile he needs help with paying his rent, utilities, car insurance and phone bill. The place he is renting does not accept section 8 or vouchers. Please if you can donate anything that will help with his finances it would greatly appreciated. David is the most brilliant and loving young man I know. He is charismatic, charming, and so full of love. He is so young, only 24 years old, and has his whole life to look forward to.
