David Elzinga COVID haircut for charity

February 5, 2020 - that was the last time I had a haircut. Then came the pandemic and the related lockdowns and business closures that meant I wasn’t able to get one.  By the time things opened up, I was starting to look a bit shaggy and was taking some heat from family, friends and co-workers, many of whom were, to put it nicely, follically challenged.  That played into my stubborn streak so I started telling everyone that I would get my hair cut when there was a vaccine thinking that it was a long way off and I’d just get it cut sometime later.  Then came more lockdowns and business closures, more comments and the next thing I knew it was over a year and a vaccine was on the horizon.

During the pandemic, I’ve been pretty lucky.  I have been able to work from home, no one in my family, including my Mother who’s 102 and in long term care, has been sick and we’ve had lots of emotional support from family and friends.  Others haven’t been so lucky.

Well, I’m now scheduled to get the vaccine so it’s time to get a haircut but at the same time I’d like to support the Canadian Mental Health Association to recognize all of the people who have suffered and continue to do so, especially through this pandemic.

I will get my hair cut once total funds raised have hit $5,000 and if funds raised hit $10,000 by the end of Mental Health Week (May 3 to 9), I will shave it ALL off.  In addition, assuming my hair is long enough, I will donate it to be made into wigs for cancer patients or other people who are in need.

You can donate directly to the CMHA through this gofundme site and an official charitable donation receipt will be generated from the PayPal Giving Fund.  Alternatively, please make a donation to a charity of your choice but please let me know so that I can keep track of the total funds raised.  If you aren’t able to donate, talk about mental health with your friends and family – Name it, don’t numb it.

Thanks for your support,

David.
