David Groves was a wonderful man, a devoted husband, an exceptional father, and a valued member of his church community. He is the youngest of five kids, and is survived three of his siblings, his wife Carol, his three sons Jason, Matt, and Robert, and his grandkids.
A little about David: He devoted his life to finding opportunities to share his testimony of Christ with others and bringing people unto Christ. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force before being granted an honorable discharge. When he met his wonderful wife Carol, he brought the gospel to her life. It was his testimony that eventually lead him to being sealed for time and all eternity to his wife.
David's uphill battle: David was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia around 2018. He had surgery to fix it, but due to his undiagnosed multiple myeloma cancer, his body was unable to form scar tissue. The surgery didn't fix his problem and the hernia returned, worse than ever. From there, he knew he needed to win his cancer battle before he would be able to fix the hernia. Over the next 3 to 4 years, he tried multiple types of cancer treatments including two different drug trials to beat his cancer. Around July this year, he finally heard the word he had been waiting so long to hear: "remission." He had done it! He beat the cancer! But there was a huge cost. His body had continued to severely weaken with every treatment he undertook. His hernia was getting worse and causing him even more issues than ever before, compressing his left lung by nearly two-thirds. The side effects of the cancer treatments were severe.
His surgeon scheduled his second hernia surgery for a couple of weeks after he went into remission from his cancer. However, before he could make it to the surgery, he developed a severe case of pneumonia that put him back in the hospital. He was unable to beat the pneumonia in time for his surgery. He appeared to be getting better after about two weeks in the hospital, so the doctors discharged him to a rehab facility to encourage his ever waning strength to return. He was so weak at this point he couldn't even stand. There were hopes that a few weeks of physical therapy would build enough muscle mass to make him strong enough to get his hernia surgery. After only two days in the rehab facility, his health took a huge turn for the worse. They transferred him back to the hospital, but there was little doctors could do at this point. He was just too weak to handle further treatments. He was unable to even open his eyes and to have conversations longer than a few seconds. His loving and merciful wife made the very difficult decision to put him in Hospice. Two days later, he passed, on Sunday August 27, 2023 at 12:30pm as the age of 76.
Now, his loving wife is left to cover his funeral expenses alone. So much of their money went to making sure he beat the cancer. We are asking if anyone would like to contribute to his funeral expenses, it would be a great blessing for her. She is usually the person that is giving her time and talents to help others. Carol has the biggest heart of any person I know. She deserves to be blessed and I am hoping creating this fund will allow her family and friends to do just that for her.
We thank you for your generosity and prayers in this hard time. We all feel the love of our savior and our community right now. We know that our eternal family will all be together again some day, and that gives us much peace in our hearts. Thank you to all that have offered to help Carol and the family.
