David Hicks Recovery and Jon Zerzavy Memorial

On the evening of September 24th 2022, David, Deidra, Jon, and one of Jon's Best Friend's were traveling back home to Cache, after attending the OU vs Kansas State game in Norman, when a speeding vehicle rear-ended them, causing their vehicle to roll over and crash. Three of the vehicle occupants were injured, but Jon, who was celebrating his 13th birthday, succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene. Deidra and Jon's friend suffered injuries and trauma from the accident but, they were released from the hospital the following day. David has remained hospitalized after suffering severe fractures and internal injuries, particularly to his face, chest, and lungs.

What started out as a fun and memorable evening to celebrate Jon's birthday ended with this tragic car accident. The entire family has spent most of their time since the accident at the hospital and David, once released, will require extensive rehabilitation.

Over the last 48 hours we have received countless phone calls with people reaching out to offer any assistance that the family might need. Many people who's lives have been touched by David, Jon, and Deidra asked us if a GoFundMe page had been set up. After inquiring with the family and getting their approval, we decided to set this fund up for any one that was interested in contributing towards the countless unplanned expenses the family has and will continue to encounter over the next several months.

Doctors are optimistic that David will eventually make a full recovery, as will Deidra and Jon's friend, but the extensive rehabilitation necessary for David will impact his ability to work and help provide for his family.

We created this GoFundMe to help relieve some of the financial pressures on the family as they struggle with their loss and their injuries. While we can not bring Jon back, we believe he is in a better place and it is now our responsibility to assist these wonderful human beings that are suffering because of this avoidable tragedy.

All of the funds that accumulate in this account will go directly to assist with medical, funeral, and replacement vehicle costs as well as helping to supplement income while the couple is unable to work.
