Help David & Jordan Recover After Losing All in Eaton Fire

Two Duffel Bags and a Bond Unbroken

The Eaton Fire raged with an anger no one had seen before, sweeping through the foothills of Altadena like hellfire unleashed. For David and his adult son, Jordan, it was the day their entire world burned to ashes.

David had been a single father for 15 years, raising Jordan, who had been diagnosed with autism at age four. Their days were built around routine — breakfast together, off to college for Jordan, and work for David, then a dinner together most nights.

Their home, a modest two-bedroom house tucked into the hillside, was filled with memories: Jordan’s drawings, David’s music, and family photos spanning generations. In just a few hours on Tuesday January 7, 2025, all of it was reduced to a decision: What can we take with us to save?

The fire was closer than anyone had anticipated. When the evacuation order came, the roads were gridlocked, while the fire roared just a couple of miles away. David grabbed two duffel bags, and hurried Jordan to the car. There was no time to explain or soothe Jordan’s worry as the routines that anchored his world crumbled.

By the time they reached safety miles away, the house was gone. David could hardly believe it. He thought about the repairs he’d done himself, the nights he’d stayed up worrying about what would happen to Jordan if David were not there for him. For Jordan, the loss is incomprehensible. How do you tell someone you’ve lost everything when you can barely comprehend it yourself?

Now, David and Jordan are starting over. They’ve found temporary shelter, but they’re struggling to make a future with everything in ashes. David is doing everything he can to pick up the pieces of their lives. Jordan’s unique needs make starting over even harder; routines have to be rebuilt, stability has to be found, and a new sense of home has to be created.

They need help.

We have established a GoFundMe for David and Jordan to help them recover.
