My name is Cathy and I am raising funds for my young friend David Kos.
David is a talented, knowledgeable and hardworking heavy-duty mechanic and has been in the industry since he was sixteen. He is an expert in his field and can fix anything that shifts. grinds or doesn't move.
More importantly, Dave is a kind and generous young man and is dedicated to his family and a large circle of friends. He is 32 years old and is married to his beautiful wife, Samantha. Together they have a son Lucas and are expecting their second child in July.
In October 2022 while working, Dave began to experience extreme lower back pain. At this point in time, Dave went to the doctor multiple times and was misdiagnosed. Eventually, in excruciating pain, Dave drove himself to the hospital. A CT scan showed that Dave had a broken back as well as a large mass on his spine. On December 23, Dave was sent to see a specialist at the Cross Cancer Institute where he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastasis Melanoma. Although there are treatments, there is currently no cure. The news was devastating.
Dave began receiving treatment shortly before the new year and spent numerous days admitted at the Cross Cancer Institute due to drug side effects. His back has been fused and he has been on various medications all in an attempt to provide both quality and quantity of life. Most recently, Dave finished a round of radiation treatment. There are more scans and treatments to come and there is hope that a new drug (not yet approved in Canada) will continue to provide Dave with the ability to make more memories with his young family. Given the challenging health situation that Dave is in, there may come a time when he will need to explore the cost of pursuing this treatment in the United States.
Since Dave was young he has worked himself to the bone to provide for himself, and eventually his family. He started his own company and in the last few years has worked his butt off to prepare a parcel of land from his grandfather's estate, close to his parents and siblings. Dave serviced the land, built a shop that he could run his company out of and had dreams of building his family's forever home. Up until the day Dave was diagnosed, his family was living in a holiday trailer inside the shop. This was to be a temporary home. Currently, Dave is unable to work. His biggest stress at the moment is providing a home for Sam, Lucas and his sweet new baby. Their family needs a permanent housing solution. It would give Dave peace of heart and mind if he could place a mobile home on the land. If he can't build his family's forever home, this would be the next best thing.
We humbly ask you to consider donating and helping this amazing young father provide a home for his family or if need be, travel to the United States for life saving treatment. Thank you so very much; we are grateful for any donation.
