DAVID LANE NEEDS A NEW VAN !!!
Donation protected
Dave, 37 yr old son of Mary Mehl Lane, was born with Down's Syndrome. One of the common side effects of this condition is congenital heart defects. Dave was born with a hole between the chambers of his heart. At twelve months old he underwent open heart surgery. The surgery was successful, but due to complications, Dave was on the heart/lung machine for a prolonged period. This caused a brain injury resulting in brain damage, blindness and cerebral palsy.
Dave loves to listen to music, go camping and be outdoors, and be part of everyday activities. He is unable to speak but has a very expressive face that lets one know if he is happy, distressed or in pain. Dave loves to sing, has a hearty laugh and likes the cat to sit on his lap.
Either in a wheelchair or lying in bed, Dave needs all aspects of care to be provided for him. This includes feeding, bathing, toileting, dressing, turning him and using a lift to transfer him. After Dave's caregiver moved, Mary has been unable to find a reliable caregiver. Gary, Mary's husband, takes over on weekends when Mary is working as a nurse lactation consultant at a North Kansas City Hospital. She has worked for many years as a labor and delivery nurse supporting both her boys without child support from their father.
The handicap-accessible van that they currently have is old and not highway worthy. Dave needs a reliable, newer van that can be taken where needed.
Anything that you can donate will go towards a newer van with a lift for Dave. Thanks so much for your support.
