David McClure memorial

Donation protected
I have known Dave McClure for over 5 years. Two of those years, he served as a board commissioner for the Ashland County Park District. During that time, he contributed much to the development of the park district. He generously gave us his knowledge, his expertise, and his skills.

Dave had a beautiful smile, a sense of humour and a gentle demeanour. He was always willing to share his ideas and information. He was passionately interested in involving youth in the outdoors and nature. He led many programs on fishing and hunting to get youth and adults interested in the natural world. He helped all age groups and skill levels whether it was the child’s first time fishing or they were just trying to learn a new trick. The love of sharing God's creation with people made a difference to him.

Many of us found him to be a splendid person of great intellect and big heart.
It’s safe to say that everyone will miss his ready smile and helpful attitude around. He was always giving compliments or a helping hand.

By donating, you are sending money to the Friends of the Ashland County Park District. This 501c3 group directly supports the Ashland County Park District. Funds can be used for sponsorship for park programs and financial assistance for park projects.

Certainly, the precious memories of you will remain in our hearts. In everything, we all can say, Jesus gives and takes, blessed be his holy name.

Happy trails Davy.

Obituary:

David “Davy” “Smiley Dave” McClure, of Ashland, left his earthly body September 1st 2020 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, due to complications from cardiac arrest. He was surrounded and is survived by his wife Dr. Marnie (Lahmon), his son and best friend Christopher, parents Andy & Peggy (Regan) and his favorite sister Heidi (Nico & Mia) Card of Columbus, at the time of his passing.

David was born 12/21/73 in Ashland, OH and graduated (class of 1992) from Hillsdale High School. In his 46 years, he developed an impressive resume of jobs, volunteer positions and community involvement. Davy was everyone's favorite Bus Driver and the Bus Mechanic for Ashland City Schools. He was also responsible for teaching many of the areas youth to drive, as an in-car driving instructor. He was Commissioner of the Ashland County Parks District, key to the Me Too Adventure Club, creator, coordinator & teacher of the Outdoor Education Programs, Mifflin Lions Member, and volunteer to all that needed him. Mentoring and volunteering were passions of David's and through his memberships at both Trinity Lutheran and Hayesville United Methodist church, he participated in multiple missions trips. Dave's faith was just too big for only one congregation and those that knew him, might expect him to be in heaven trying to take St. Peter's job, so he can stand at the pearly gates and welcome everyone with a bear hug, corny joke and his trademark smile. Davy’s famous words “Life’s too short not to laugh”.

Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday September 8, 2020 at Dickey Church with Pastor Jeff Messner officiating. Burial will be in Vesper Cemetery.

Friends may call Monday September 7, 2020 from 2-4 pm or 7-9 pm at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville or 2 hours prior at Dickey Church before the service. Facial covering and social distancing are required at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ashland County Park District 1763 State Route 60 Ashland,
