David Mittleman

On the morning of November 1, 2023, David was running a short errand near their home when he was discovered in his car near the side of the road. Fortunately, this event was witnessed by passersby, who alerted emergency services. Dave was transported to Mission Hospital and Valerie, who was at work, was alerted by medical personnel. Diagnosis for stroke, as evidenced by sudden onset for focal neurologic deficits, revealed blockage of the largest cerebral artery, the left middle cerebral artery (MCA). David underwent emergency Embolectomy for mechanical clot retrieval. Reportedly, following three failed attempts to remove, a medical assistant stated he had observed a different approach which was then attempted, and proved successful. David was hospitalized for 14days with time spent in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and Inpatient Rehabilitation. There he received intensive Occupational, Physical and Speech therapies. David demonstrated good progress and was subsequently discharged home.

Many miracles occurred during this event. First, immediate observation and response for medical attention. Second, Mission Hospital was located a

short distance from where he was discovered. Third, surgical intervention occurred within the “golden period” for removal of clot less than 60 minutes from onset of symptoms. Fourth, the medical technician, with input and expertise due to previous observations, was available and present for David’s procedure. In addition, we are grateful for the prayers in his behalf. We count all of these as blessings for his medical recovery.

David continues to demonstrate progress; however, it is very early in his recovery. Presently, he is unable to work and return to employment is unknown. He is attending outpatient services for Occupational, Physical and Speech services. He requires 24-hour care for his daily needs. Current and ongoing medical costs are anticipated to be significant.

David and Valerie have a history of providing services for many friends, family members and various other causes. Their love and friendship have blessed the lives of many.
