David Ostrom's battle with Cancer

I am setting up this Go Fund Me for the young Ostrom family. Brianna and David have been married for judt over two years, together for just over 11, and have a beautiful baby girl, Bethany, who is almost one. Brianna has been off on maternity leave from her job as a primary care nurse, and David recently started a new career at Premium Pellets. The two have been working to settle down after moving to Vanderhoof in 2021.

David was very unexpectedly diagnosed around 4 months ago with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. An xray, unrelated to his cancer, showed "something" pushing on his windpipe. Just in case, an ultrasound was ordered to see what it was. The ultrasound showed a mass of just over 1 cm, which is the threshhold for a biopsy, so although the young family was being reassured that it was probably nothing, a biopsy was done to rule out cancer. Unfortunately though, the results showed abnormal cells, which David was told was likely cancer.

Next came a Hemithyroidectomy, where a surgeon removed half of David's thyroid to confirm the diagnosis. This surgery, heartbreakingly, confirmed malignant cancer, and the young family was told that the lack of clear borders suggested that the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes.

David was then referred to a specialist in Vancouver to remove the rest of his thyroid and explore further the extent of the cancer. As you can imagine, the expenses for these appointments and surgeries out of town, and time off of work have added up. The family just returned from the week long stay in Vancouver following David's second surgery, where the other half of his thyroid was removed. The Ostroms are now awaiting a follow up appointment to learn the next steps toward beating David's Cancer.

It is unclear what lies ahead for this young family, but it is clear that financial support is needed to alleviate some of the stress.

I'm hoping that we can come together to help ease the financial burden cancer has put on this family in this unpredictable journey.
