David Russell Surgery Fund

On February 19th, 2022, my son, Jake Reibel (16, sophomore at Fishers High School), died in a car accident. He was with (4) of his best friends on a road trip to Chicago from Fishers, Indiana.

While my son was taken to the coroner’s office, the other boys went to a traumatic trauma unit at a South Chicago hospital. All were concussed, all had their own injuries, and the boys (also FHS students) were scanned head to toe for potentially unknown internal concerns.

One of the boys, David Russell, Jr., (17, a junior @FHS) discovered something unexpected that day: a tumor behind his sinus cavity, pressing into his brain. David has suffered severe allergies and has experienced chronic sinus issues most of his life, but this tumor was previously undiagnosed and undetected.

This discovery may be the silver lining of the fatal accident that took the life of my son.

David’s parents are in need of grace and generosity at this moment in their lives. Medical bills are mounting and the time off from work to care for their son has a domino effect. This is what happens when you prioritize what is most important: it can add stress in other areas of your life.

David’s family has undergone exponential emotional strife over the past 6 weeks: he has been grieving one of his best friends while attempting to get back to his schoolwork, recover from his injuries - including a concussion - and cope with the reality of a tumor in his cranium. His surgery is April 5th (I will update this site as David is currently in surgery as I type).

Let’s help David and his family by donating to his fund.

Thank you so much,
