On Friday, January 4th, David fell 30 meters while snowboarding at Sunshine Village and suffered severe trauma. David is currently under the care of the trauma unit at Foothills Hospital where his medical team is working to address his major injuries. The fall broke several ribs which punctured his left lung and also tore a major vein to his heart, he fractured his T12 and sustained major trauma to his spinal cord. The current plan is to insert a stent into the torn vein in order to reduce the risk of uncontrolled bleeding during the back surgery. They are performing this procedure this afternoon and have not scheduled the back surgery, but say likely tomorrow. David does not have feeling below his waist and Doctors can not promise that the feeling will return after his surgery. David is nervous but staying as optimistic as possible and his pain is being managed reasonably well. He appreciates all prayers and positive thoughts you can send his way. He has a long road of recovery ahead any amount will help.
