David Shannon's Future Breath of Fresh Air

As some of you may know, our brother, David Shannon, has been suffering from a debilitating lung disease (COPD) for many years. This disease has become progressively worse over time and it is now to the point at which he struggles significantly to breathe even with the use of oxygen. Within the past year, his physician indicated his need for a lung transplant so he has been going through the evaluation process at several hospitals, including the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, WI; Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, WI; Mayo Clinic of Rochester, MN; and Northwestern Hospital in Chicago, IL. This has been a challenging and arduous journey, for certain, but fortunately, he has just been accepted as a lung transplant recipient at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. Part of their protocol requires that he reside in Chicago for a minimum of 3 months following the procedure. Although the majority of the medical costs will be covered, it will be necessary for him to reside near Northwestern Hospital, which will be very costly – averaging over 3,000.00 + per month just for housing. There will be additional costs for travel, food, uncovered medical costs and other ancillary services which really cannot be determined at this time. His family will contribute what they can to the costs of this procedure, however, his Social Worker at Northwestern has indicated that the costs will most likely exceed $20,000.

For anyone who knows David, you are most likely aware that he has always stepped up to help others in times of need. So, this is a first for all of us! This time he is in need and we are graciously asking for your assistance in helping him reach this goal. Kindly and humbly we ask for your help at this time.
