David Shirey Cancer Fund

To the family and friends of David and Olivia Shirey:
It is with heavy hearts that we have learned that my brother David Shirey is going through a tremendous trial. A few weeks ago, David was diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer. He will be starting a rigorous daily radiation and chemotherapy treatment for 6 weeks, followed by surgery to remove the tumor. After the surgery, there will be 6 months of follow-up chemotherapy after recovery from surgery. As a pilot, David will not be able to work, or resume his current job until he is declared to be in remission. They do not have insurance because his job as a flight instructor was as an independent contractor with no benefits and no access to unemployment due to being self-employed. The Federal Aviation Administration lists this condition as self-grounding. As his health has been rapidly declining he’s not able to apply for other jobs. The treatment plan currently recommended by the medical team should last approximately 9 months. His medical team is optimistic about his prognosis for a cure. He was denied full coverage Medicaid so there will still be significant out of pocket cost for his treatments and living expenses during treatment and recovery. Olivia works for their church as the children’s ministry director, but this doesn’t make up for the loss of David’s income.
David and Olivia live in Florida with their three young daughters, Vanessa (8), Alina (6), and Sofia(3). They are active and faithful members of their church, Spruce Creek Presbyterian, PCA. All who call them friends can testify to their wonderful and gracious friendship that has blessed many lives in countless ways! We are asking all who know this precious family to lift them up to the heavenly Father daily, for supernatural and complete healing, peace during the hard days ahead, faith that passes all understanding, spiritual strength, emotional comfort, and an overwhelming presence of our heavenly Father as they walk this difficult road together.
We humbly ask that anyone who reads this will consider being the hands and feet of Jesus in a tangible way; in support of our fellow believers who desperately need us at this time of their lives! Please consider a donation of any size to help off-set the tremendous cost of medical treatments as well as the normal household bills that were previously being covered by David’s income. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and may the Lord bless you as you bless this dear family.
