Please help us help David get back on his foot!

David had a few issues with his foot for the last week or so. It started as an ingrown toenail that caused him severe pain. Being the tough guy that he is, David tried to work through the pain. He was diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago and he’s always had some level of foot pain, so he figured he could wait this one out.

Then a shard of glass lodged in his foot. Already in pain, infection set in. After the second week the pain became unbearable and the infection was more noticeable making it difficult for him to move or even stand.

Upon seeing the foot myself, I noticed the foot had started to turn black. Upon my urging, he went to the doctor, and he was admitted to the hospital the next day.

As of today, they have amputated his foot at the ankle, and after four days, pending the outcome of the first surgery, they will amputate the rest of his lower leg below his knee. He has several months of recovery ahead of him.

David is the sole breadwinner for both his wife and a child. David’s wife already has health problems severe enough that she is unable to work. One can only imagine what problems can arise when a paycheck isn’t coming in for even a week, so it’s going to be tough for David’s family to stay afloat.

We are trying to raise enough money to cover David’s rent and utilities while he recovers from this setback and also assist him in purchasing a prosthetic leg so he can get back to work.

David is one of the kindest and most selfless individuals I know. He is both my friend and coworker, and though he’s never had much, he is always willing to share. If someone needed help, David would be the first to drop everything to pitch in. He’s just that kind of guy. He never thinks of himself first.

Now David needs our help.

Sometimes, things happen that we can't predict or prepare for, but with your help, we can give David the opportunity to get back on his foot (and a new foot).
