David wants to dorm at Biola!

Greetings, friends and family!
For those of you who do not know me, I am David Chung, a student pursuing a Bachelor of Music Degree in Voice Performance at the Biola University’s Conservatory of Music who is visually impaired. As many of you know, funding a Biola education is challenging since Biola University is a private institution of higher learning. Moreover, I am an undocumented student due to no fault of my own. Students who are undocumented have difficulty financing their education because most scholarships are reserved for U.S. Citizens; however, God lavished his extravagant grace upon me by providing for my studies for the last three years! In addition, Jesus also provided everything that I need to continue my studies at Biola during the Fall 2018 term!
One desire that I have is to live on campus for my final year at Biola. Because the cost of room and board is expensive, I commuted to and from Biola for the last three years. To do this, I used a transportation system called Access Paratransit, which provides transportation for people with disabilities. Although Access is an affordable way to travel, it has one major drawback: namely, Access is a share ride system, which means that I will probably have other riders on board with me. Hence, my commute can take anywhere from half an hour to two and a half hours depending on how many people my driver has to pick up and drop off on the way. To make sure that I would arrive on campus on time, I would get up at 5:00 in the morning and come home at 9:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. Although commuting to and from Biola was challenging, I did it with great joy.
There are a couple of reasons why I would like to live on campus. First, I am 97% extraverted according to the Myers-Briggs personality test. If I can live on campus, then I will be able to develop deep, Christ-honoring friendships with more people since I have more time on my hands. Most importantly, I will have to live alone sooner or later in my life. What better place to develop these independent living skills than at Biola where so many people love me and can help me to perfect them. This would be an ideal environment for me to perfect skills like doing my own laundry and tying my own bowtie!
The cost of room and board that I am trying to raise is about $6125 per semester, and here is the approximate cost breakdown. Horton is my first choice when it comes to choosing a dorm is concerned because it is close to so many places that I visit the most on campus, such as the music building, Chase Gymnasium where chapels are held, and the cafeteria. Living at Horton will cost $3100 per semester. A meal plan consisting of 20 meals per week will cost approximately $2600. In addition, I need to pay a $250 housing deposit. Finally, the remaining $175 is to compensate for the 2.9% service charge fee that my fundraising website collects from the entire amount that I raise. Initially, I did not want to put up this fundraising website because I did not want to be a burden to others; however, one of my professors exhorted me to not limit the LORD. He encouraged me to try to fundraise the amount and see how the LORD would move in my situation. There are a couple of ways that you can help me. First, please pray that the will of God will be done during this process. Second, if you can share this link on your social media platforms and raise awareness of my journey, that would be awesome. Finally, if you feel led to contribute financially, I want to let you know that any amount helps. Thank you so much for your willingness to walk with me through this process.
Much love in Christ,
David
