David Colomb's Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
This fundraiser is for my brother David Colomb.David is married to Debbie, they have two children Kyle and Chelsea. One of David's greatest joys is being a grandfather to Ava and Jakob. David has battled degenerative kidney disease for over 20 years. He knew about 10 years ago that he would eventually need a kidney transplant. Many people would never know that David had kidney disease because of his positive attitude, strong work ethic and healthy appearance. It wasn't until the doctors told him last year that his kidney function had dropped to below 10% and that he needed to start dialysis immediately. Anybody who has experienced or known anyone that has had dialysis, understands the time committment required and the toll it takes on a person's body. However my brother never let this get in the way of his work or family obligations. At the same time David started dialysis, he and his doctors began preparing for the end goal of having the transplant.
As family and friends completed testing to see if they were qualified to donate, David kept his positive attitude. Luckily, his daughter Chelsea is a match and has been cleared to give her father a great gift. The surgeries will take place on August 4, 2016 at NY-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell in New York City.
This is where we need everyone's help - because David lives in upstate New York, he and his family will need to stay in New York City for a number of weeks after the transplant in order to facilitate many follow-up appointments and of course to fully recover. Unfortunately, there are going to be substantial medical costs that are not covered by insurance as well as multiple weeks of hotel expenses. Our hope is that if we all pull together that we can ease this financial burden, allowing my brother and his daughter to concentrate on recovery!
I am honored to have such an amazing and caring brother, I'm sure those who know David feel the same way! Please help us relieve some of this financial pressure in any way possible, including spreading the word.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our story and for helping such a wonderful family.
Love
