Cancer Patient, 34, IVIG Treatments
Donation protected
David Kwekel, 34, is a loving husband and father of 3 who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January of 2014 (see pictures below). After successfully treating the cancer David had some immunization shots and within a few hours he began experiencing severe headaches and pain throughout his body. Over the next 10 months the pain continued to get worse but doctors were unable to diagnose what was wrong and the pain medications didn't help ease the pain he was experiencing.
In November, after countless doctor vistits, David was diagnosed with Small Fiber Sensory Neuropathy (SFSN). IVIG treatments need to be administered over a 12 week period for a total of 15 treatments and will cost around $300,000 ($20,000/treatment) which will reverse the extremely painful symptoms he is having. Unfortunately Blue Cross of Michigan has denied coverage for the treatments and their appeal was denied as well. In desparation they have filed a 2nd appeal but it looks very bleak and may take months for Blue Cross to respond. In the meantime David's symptoms have been getting worse by the day and he now has constant shooting and burning pain throughout his body, terrible headaches, tremors so bad he can no longer feed himself and is unable to sleep much as a result. He is also unable to perform even the smallest tasks we all take for granted like going for walks and playing with his kids. The only options the Kwekel's have at this point is to pay out of pocket for the expenses as the hospital will not perform the treatments until they have the money up front.
Our goal is to raise $400,000 to cover the treatments as well as the mounting medical expenses the family has incurred. David needs the treatments asap so we are hoping to raise the money as quickly as possible. Not only will they provide the relief needed for Dave but it will also relieve the burden his wonderful wife, Vickie, is carrying and help a loving father be able to do the fun things with his children that most of us take for granted every day.
If you are able to please help the Kwekel's cause. Also, please spread the word to others and let's help the Kwekel's have a great start to 2015!
Please feel free to visit carepages.com and search "davidkwekel" to learn more and read the updates from Vicky over the last 11 months.
