David Cosner, an Alumnus of Texas State University had battled with Wegener's disease (Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis) which is a rare disease that causes severe inflammation in various tissues but primarily affects the respiratory tract and kidneys. David had endured 337 surgeries during his battle. The young man had so much going for him and never let anything get him down. David was an outstanding Business Management student with determination like no other. Dr. Rob Konopaske, Associate Professor of Management, and his wife, Vania, established the endowed scholarship fund on behalf of a former McCoy student, David Cosner.
The Inspiration David Left His Peers and Professors
Dr. Konopaske, one of David's professors at Texas State University shared with us that "Cosner was the definition of humility when he spoke with students during Business Leadership Week about his amazing battle with a deadly rare disease, and how he beat the odds again and again." During his presentation, Cosner shared: “I really enjoy sharing my story with fellow students. I intend to show my peers that no matter what the odds, if you keep a positive attitude, and never give up, you can accomplish anything. He said, "the only thing that gets in the way of you and your dreams is yourself". David had a huge passion for fishing and in an interview with Fox 7 Austin, David shared: "I want to fish against the best in the world. I want to fish in the 2018 bass master central opens as a pro." This grit came from the determination that David carried within himself. Hopefully, David's story can continue to inspire the students.
HONORING DAVID’S LEGACY
This scholarship endowment is for students who are willing to be just like David. When a student receives this scholarship they will be representing everything that David stood for to honor the legacy he left behind.
Our goal is to help finish reach the full endowment so that a student can receive the scholarship in his name. Therefore, our goal is to raise at least $2,500 to finalize this scholarship endowment.
Who Are We
A group of McCoy College of Business students currently enrolled in Studies of Entrepreneurship taught by Dr. Josh Daspit are raising money through April 21, 2022, to help make a positive impact on society and bring life to what David stood for. We believe by helping out future students to achieve an award like such, it would be a great way of honoring David's Legacy.
Can You Help Us Reach Our Goal?
If we can reach this goal, the David R. Cosner Scholarship will be fully endowed. This will continue to benefit business students in perpetuity.
Any money raised that is beyond our goal will be added to the principal of the scholarship and will allow future students to receive greater support.
We thank you in advance for any contribution you can make. It means so much to us as students.
