David's New Kidney & Housing During Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, I am Christine, David's older sister. I wanted to start a fundraiser to help cover costs for David's housing needs while he is recovering from his 2nd kidney transplant. For a bit of back story, David was diagnosed with diabetes at 14 years old, and had his first kidney transplant in 1992, which was lovingly donated by his older brother Butch. In 1996, David had a pancreas transplant that made him officially diabetes free. However, he eventually suffered from constant UTIs and had conversion surgery to direct everything to his pancreas and away from his bladder. His brother's donated kidney lasted David until 2019 when he started to go into kidney failure. Columbian Presbyterian Hospital in New York was the only hospital to accept David for a "challenging" 2nd kidney transplant. He has remained on dialysis and looking for a donor since then. On Sunday, July 23rd at 10 PM he was called for a potential match. Another call came at 1 AM to say the kidney was a match and to head to the hospital! After a 7 hour surgery, the transplant was a success! As part of David's recovery, he has to stay near the hospital in New York for bloodwork 3 times a week for a minimum of a month, maybe two. Being away from home has its challenges financially, and we are hoping to help cover costs for rooming while he recovers. Anything you can donate towards David's housing while he recovers will be such a blessing to the family and we greatly appreciate all of the help!
