David's Road to Recovery After DUI Crash

David was in an accident on 1/5/25 when a drunk driver turned into wrong way traffic striking his motorcycle. The drunk driver has had prior DUI’s and was arrested. David sustained life threatening injuries. His right femur and tibia were broken and protruding at the scene. In order to save his life his right lower leg was amputated. He has lacerations on his left leg, kidney and liver. He has a torn aorta, blood clots in his lungs, bilateral fractures to his pelvis and 3 broken ribs. His arms are swollen and he will have x-rays to determine if there are additional fractures or broken bones in his arms. He currently remains in ICU in Seattle, pending a third surgery tomorrow. David will have to learn to walk again and will not be able to work until he is healed, fitted for a prosthesis and learns to live without a limb. Puyallup police responded Sunday evening to a collision in the city that sent a motorcyclist to a hospital with serious injuries and closed a road near South Hill Mall for hours. According to a department news release, the crash occurred at 6:02 p.m. as a motorcyclist headed eastbound on 39th Avenue Southwest and approached the 700 block. At that point, a pickup truck entered the roadway from 7th Street Southwest, “without yielding the right of way to the motorcycle, causing a collision,” the release sad. The collision knocked the motorcycle and rider across the road. The rider, a 28 year old Pierce County man, was transported to a local hospital, police said. A collision investigation team responded to the scene while police assessed the pickup truck driver, a 72-year-old Pierce County man. Following an impairment evaluation, the man was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
