Davontae Deshawn Smith's Celebration of Life
On June 8th, 2021, Devontae Deshawn Smith, 21, passed away tragically in Portland, Oregon; being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was found deceased early Tuesday morning at a motel by the crossfire of a shooting.
Davontae also known as “Chunk” was a rising entrepreneur that had started his own clothing brand “SW” and was loved by everyone that crossed his path. His spirit & smile lit up the room whenever he walked in…. the biggest smile anyone could have.
While his family, friends, and peers are all saddened by this unexpected Tragedy and although he is no longer physically with us… we all know his loving spirit will live on in all who knew him.
Devontae lived in Portland, Oregon with his mother, Mone Gardere(caring mother of four that stays at home caring for all her kids including Devontae), step-father Mark, brothers Deontae & Percy, sister Tahlia. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and he will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
Devontae was a humorous, caring soul who had a constant smile, loved his dog patches, and often sought out his mom to give her a hug and tell her he loved her. He would inspire his brothers and sister, by always spending time with them, bringing gifts, and always thinking of family. Chunk (as he was known in his home) and his brother Deontae enjoyed playing football together, sitting around making freestyles for, and traveling together. Constantly thinking of others, Chunk had incredible empathy and kindness for his peers. His friends describe him as "the man who was so easy to get along with," and "the one whom parents want their own kid to be like." Chunk liked his life being the best version of them self. Chunk would treat peers like his own family and always extend a helping arm to them. He had just bought himself a brand new car, for the reward of creating a clothing label and he felt pride in it all. The effort and hard work Chunk would do so that his excellence can show was always outstanding. He spent most highschool days playing football and inspiring his family to be positive and strive for higher goals. There was never a limit that could stop Chunk except this one. He would be missed entirely by his family, friends, and peers.
Chunk had only 2 weeks before him and his family were to move back to California to reunite with family again after being gone for 5 years. If this tragic would have never happened he would be here along side us all back home in the bay area; where we all grew up together.
There are no words of comfort that we can offer to Devontae's family at this time. Please consider making a donation to the CELEBRATION OF LIFE FUND. All monies will help his family during the tragic time! We hope to be able to raise enough money to bring Davontae “Chunk” Smith home where he belongs…”THE BAY, Ca”!!!!
