Shawn Sexton's Medical Expenses

This is Shawn Sexton's story. Not many of you know, because he has not wanted to burden people, but early this spring he had what is called a brain stem stroke. He is going to be fine...but has a long road of recovery ahead of him and the bills are mounting! He is a painter, both inside and out. We are lucky that on this day he chose not to be outside on a ladder, but to paint trim inside instead! That spring morning, while at work, he went to stand up and was very dizzy and fell to the floor. He thought maybe he just stood up too fast. He tried again and could not stand. He said he "felt funny". His coworker knew enough to know this was not right and FORCED him to go to the hospital. He put Shawn in his truck and started driving to the ER. He noticed Shawn was fading fast and decided to pull over in a parking lot and called 911. If he had not done that, the paramedics said Shawn would most likely not be with us today! Luckily the paramedic station was a block away and they were there very fast! They were able to give him the stroke-buster shot-which also was a saving grace! When he arrived at the ER, he could not talk, see, walk, or swallow. He was numb on one side of his body. He spent a few days in ICU and a couple of weeks at the hospital. He was then moved to a rehab center and spent another two weeks there. He was released and sent home but has outpatient PT three times a week. He has regained his ability to swallow and eat real foods! He has regained some of his vision but still sees double. He got some fancy new glasses that are supposed to help with that. He has graduated from a wheelchair to a walker to walking with a cane. He still has no feeling on one side of his body, so relearning to walk has been somewhat challenging. He has been putting in the hard work though and getting better each day. He will need follow-up surgery to clear some blocked arteries so that this does not happen again.
He has not been cleared to work, however. Being a painter, he makes most of his annual income in the summer. He will miss the whole summer season. His wife Kira works too, but she has had to miss so much work to be with him. When he was in the ICU, she was by his bedside every day and stayed with him as much as she could at the hospital and rehab. She is responsible for getting him to and from therapy as he has not been cleared to drive either. He needed all the medical things to adapt his home so that he could come home to his house and these things are not cheap!
As you can imagine, the bills are piling up! They just bought a house and are struggling to pay the mortgage and keep up with all the bills coming in. We thought maybe a Go Fund Me could help them out a bit. It does not have to be much, every little bit adds up! So if you can and would like to donate, we would greatly appreciate your generosity. The funds will be used to pay his medical bills, the mortgage and utility bills. This would relieve much of the stress they are feeling and would allow him to focus on continuing to improve and get back to his old self! Thank you in advance for any kind of support you can give!
