Dawn Moyer and family

Friends and Family,

Late last year, our precious Dawn discovered a small lump on her upper left arm. She didn't think much of it, maybe it was a strained muscle, but nothing more. Over the course of a few weeks, the lump grew larger, and at a rapid rate, causing pain and discomfort. After seeing her primary doctor, she was sent for an ultrasound, which revealed a mass, presenting like cancer. She was quickly sent to MRI and then to have a biopsy. Before the biopsy results were even back, Dawn was meeting with an oncologist and very quickly scheduled for surgery.

The doctor was hopeful, but fearful that the mass was indeed cancer. Much to our dismay, he was correct. On Thursday December 13th, Dawn was diagnosed with Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma, a very rare, yet aggressive cancer. On Friday December 14th, Dawn had surgery to remove the mass. As you can imagine, this was shocking and rocked Dawn and her family's world.  So began the process of doctors visits and research....

Doctors here locally were not comfortable treating Dawn because of the rarity of this type of cancer. She was referred to MD Anderson in Houston. After hours of phone calls, insurance denials, tears and frustrations, Dawn was approved to be seen by, and receive treatment at, MD Anderson. Praise the Lord!  Dawn will undergo six weeks of radiation followed by four months of chemotherapy to fight this nasty disease, starting this week.

As of now, the plan is for Dawn to fly to Houston on Monday mornings, undergo five days of radiation and return home on Friday evenings to spend the weekend with her family. As most of you know, Dawn is a self-employed massage therapist. She will be taking at least six months of leave. On top of the emotional and physical toll this treatment will take on her and her family, it will also be a time of financial hardship. Not only is there loss of income, but also enormous medical bills and travel expenses.

First and foremost, we ask that you cover the Moyer family in prayer. Jerome is staying in ABQ to keep the kids schedule as normal as possible, as he continues to work as well. Please pray for Korbin and Reed as they navigate this unstable terrain these next few months. Pray for comfort and grace for each of them. Pray for complete healing for Dawn. And if you feel lead, please give a donation so we can help defer some of the financial burden that comes with fighting cancer.

On behalf of the Moyer family, I thank you for your willingness to help. Your love and support will help carry this family through this scary and difficult time.
