Hello, I would like to tell you about my son Dave and his wife.

Both are hard-working and self-employed, Dave as a construction contractor most of his adult life; his wife as an esthetician, nail tech and business owner. They have been renovating their home and recently Dave fell about 10 feet to the concrete below breaking both ankles, his left wrist and his right elbow. After a week in the hospital and three painful surgeries, he was discharged with casts on one leg and both arms. He is wheelchair-bound for the foreseeable future. A gracious neighbor has offered the use of their house during Dave's slow recovery process.

While they have decent insurance they have run up substantial health bills, reaching their maximum out-of-pocket. He will not be able to finish work on their house on his own which is currently gutted and he will not be able to earn income working for other clients.

His wife is also self-employed and has had to cancel appointments with clients to get Dave through the critical early phase. She too will continue to lose income as she cares for Dave. After Dave recovers, they both will have to rebuild their client base.

Before Dave's fall, Dave and his wife were self-reliant and independent. They have always taken great pride in being responsible and generous within their community. They never expected to have to rely on the generosity of family and friends.
