Gift of Hope for Greg Chapman's Family
Dear Friends and Family,
Greg Chapman leaves behind his beautiful wife, Giulia, and their three wonderful children, Jonathan (8), Niccolo (6) and Sofia (4).
During the last five months, Greg fell ill with an array of symptoms that stumped the doctors. He was in and out of hospitals, spending two and a half months in three hospitals in Belgium and Italy. Despite multiple tests and biopsies, no trace of cancer was detected. Unfortunately, Greg was suffering from a rare form of sarcoma, which was very advanced and aggressive and had spread, hidden by fluid buildup around his heart and lungs. In Genoa, during a procedure to remove the fluid, Gregory succumbed to the cancer.
Greg was peaceful and happy the day of the operation. Our consolation is that he did not know how serious it was and we were able to joke and laugh and reminisce about happier times and our hopes for the future. We are grateful for the kindness and compassion of the hospital staff at San Martino Hospital in Genoa who showed us true grace and love and comforted us as friends.
We are slowly recovering from our shock and are now facing the reality of the medical bills and the future of the children. So many of you have expressed a wish to help the family and we are grateful for your support and compassion. These are the things that give hope and meaning to the terrible things that happen in life.
We have set up this page to raise funds for the children’s education and to help Giulia carry on now that her husband is no longer with us. Their medical insurance took care of 80% of the bills. He was hospitalized for over 2.5 months in three hospitals in two countries and was airlifted between two of them. We have yet to learn what the total expenses are.
My brother taught me one important thing: that it is all about the little things in life, because there’s nothing any bigger. He was an amazing, beautiful brother, husband, father and man. May God bless him and may he rest in peace.
We miss you Greg.
The funeral service will be held in Perinaldo, Italy on August 26th and a celebration of his life will be held on September 1st at 7pm at the Unity Church of Tampa, 3302 West Horatio St, Tampa, Florida 33609. Tel: [phone redacted].
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you support this GoFundMe campaign to help Greg's wife and children.
