I am writing to share what the Lord has been doing in me lately, and to invite you to join me!
My Story
Growing up with my own share of hardships, I have always had a heart for the hurting. When we were in college and newly married, Barry and I became involved in a discipleship counseling ministry. It was there that I began to look at some of my childhood pain and understand better why I do what I do. We went on staff with the ministry and began walking others through the discipleship process. This was my first exposure to helping people and offering hope.
Following this ministry experience, we went on staff as house parents at a boarding school in French Camp, Mississippi. We had 16 middle school boys who came from difficult home situations and needed a safe place to grow. We fell in love with our boys and continue to be close to some of them today. Two of them, twin boys, we have taken in and love as our own sons. They are 24 today. Hearing their stories and the many more really gave us a desire to learn how to help people like them heal. Barry decided to get his counseling degree, and through that process we encountered our own share of struggles.
When our marriage hit a crisis as a result of not having dealt with our own childhood traumas, we immediately got ourselves into counseling. I attended individual and group therapy weekly for a year. As I began to deal with my pain, and learn how to have a voice, and have healthy boundaries, it has been life-changing for me. As we have embraced recovery as a way of life, we both long to offer that same hope and opportunity to heal to other people. Barry is currently a licensed professional counselor ministering to marriages, individuals, and families.
My Dream
As a result of the profound healing I have experienced from my own counseling, the dream has been birthed in me to become a licensed professional counselor myself and join my husband in offering hope and healing to marriages, individuals, and families.
I know we live in a world full of suffering. Some have experienced much more than others, but all of us have or will experience some. It is my desire to use my gifts and talents and life experiences to offer hope in the midst of suffering and pain. My passion is for marriages and families to be restored, and individuals to be healthy and experience healing in relationships. My ultimate dream is to serve alongside my husband one day, and together we can be instruments of reconciliation.
My Path
I have been accepted into the Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling Program at Reformed Theological Seminary. I am on the 3-yr track which consist of 71 credit hours and 500 hours of supervised counseling. Needless to say, I will desperately need your prayers for myself and my family.
· Pray for protection and continued growth for our marriage
· Pray for the right people to help give some extra love to our girls
· Pray for the financial means to cover tuition and childcare for the journey
· Pray for mental, emotional, and physical stamina for me to endure the intensity of school
I have been blessed to be awarded with a 30% scholarship from RTS in my first year. We are responsible for the other 70%, and our prayer is that we won’t have to go into debt to get it. That is why we are offering this opportunity to be in partnership with us in the journey.
