Andrews Cause - Sepsis Awareness
I have set this one up to raise funds for Sepsis Australia through the Georges Institute to research and raise awareness around Sepsis. I am doing this for a couple of reasons. When my youngest was born, it was obvious she was very unwell, thankfully the amazing staff at Katoomba hospital were able to revive her, however, she was quickly diagnosed with an infection, pneumonia, meningitis and developed sepsis. Thankfully she shows no signs of her tough start to life. I wish my experience ended here... On the 25th of August 2023 we lost our amazing Husband, Dad and Pa to Sepsis. He had an infection called Invasive Group A Streptococcus, which then turned into Sepsis, causing septic shock, sadly ultimately leading to his death. If the words “Could it be Sepsis?” were used earlier, it could have saved his life and ours would not have been thrown upside down.
I am planning on running a 6 hour run on the weekend of the 25th of August, followed by a 12 hour challenge in the summer school holidays. However, I will up that to a 24 hour if we reach $10000 by the start of December!
This may be a big goal and challenge, but I would do anything for Dad… This is one small thing that can hopefully bring some good for others.
Know the signs for Sepsis.
