Help Gabi beat Cancer

Donation protected

My name is Mayra and this is truly the hardest thing I have ever had to write.

I am the oldest of 3 siblings (and by oldest, I mean the other two can be my kids). The youngest is Gabriela. She is 29 years old. I write this on behalf of her, her grandmother, mother, husband, siblings, daughter, nieces/nephews, family and friends.

Gabi is the type of person that lights up the room as soon as she walks in. Her smile is contagious. She is a free-spirit and the sunshine you need on a cloudy day and truly blessing all of us with her positive outlook on life. She loves outdoors and her world revolves around her beautiful baby.

Gabi marches to the beat of her own (rock) drum. She has always made us all proud by being just who she is as well as becoming an airline mechanic and then a mother to our little princess Emily who is now 2.

A month ago, this wonderful young woman had a pain in her shoulder and assuming that she had strained her muscle, picking up or playing with her exuberant 2 year old, went to the doctor to have it checked out. That day our world was turned upside-down.

A shadow in the X-ray was cause for concern. Even the doctors weren’t too worried. After all, she is healthy, young and all her blood work was clear. But just in case, a biopsy was scheduled… it was confirmed that she has cancer.

Her cancer is concentrated in the Pleura. Initially believed it was Mesothelioma, the labs are still testing the specimen because she doesn’t fit the requirements for that type of cancer. Apparently what she has is very rare and they haven’t been able to figure it out. All that is known is that it is cancer. The good news is that it is contained and has not spread. We’re still waiting on word on how in-depth her treatment will be - we won't know that until her medical team (2 doctors from Memorial, 1 from UM, and a Holistic Oncologist) figures out what type of cancer she has. Although we don’t know too much as of yet, we are not wasting any time.

Alongside treatments her medical team will be doing, Gabi is also doing natural treatments to ensure her body is ready for the toll this terrible disease, surgery, chemotherapy or radiation will take on it. Insurance doesn’t cover oxygen therapies which are expensive and she has already started. Her Holistic Oncologist has started her on a diet to fortify her body and it can get also get expensive.

All donations will go directly to Gabi. They will allow Gabi to pay for the medical expenses (since we’re not sure what procedures are needed or how much of them will be covered), the holistic/alternative treatments, any travel-related costs and any other living expenses.

We cannot thank you enough for your generous donations! No matter the amount, we are eternally grateful for the love and support.

If you cannot donate at this time, you can help by sharing this link. Please pray for Gabi. She is a fighter and she will beat this – she is our superhero.

We thank you all!
