Air Ambulance
Hi my name is Laura Anderson. On the 3rd October 2020 at 18:29 I lost my Dad, Willie Anderson following a Road Traffic Collision earlier that day. It was a beautiful sunny autumn day and Willie was on his classic GT750 Kawasaki motorcycle travelling into Tullow, only 4 miles away to get some messages when the collision occurred. Emergency Services were at scene very quickly and because of the nature of the accident the Air Ambulance was tasked. The land ambulance crew worked hard at the scene and the Air Ambulance crew worked hard while Willie was airlifted to St James Hospital Dublin. He fought hard but it wasn’t to be. He had lost too much blood and passed away. I was in the Hospital and I was and still am genuinely overwhelmed by how much the emergency services cared and how hard they fought to save him and I will be forever grateful to them.
For anyone that knew Willie or knew of Willie, you know he was hard working, happy, friendly, caring and would never see anyone stuck for anything. He loved talking to people and really enjoyed his work driving the Taxi for Tullow Cabs.
He loved classic motorbikes and was very well known at classic bike rally’s and auto jumbles.
Its been almost a year since the accident and I have been thinking about ways to keep Willies memory alive and to do something he would have supported and which would make him proud. I was looking into organising a Bike run or auto jumble but this past year has just been a blur of grief and sorting paperwork and trying to find a way of living without him and I just never managed to organise anything but I don’t want to let his first anniversary pass without making something positive out of it . So for this year I am going to try and raise money for the Air Ambulance Service using GoFundMe. I have looked into the figures and for every flight they take it costs 3500 euro. Even though Willies story didn’t end how we hoped it would , we are still so grateful the Air Ambulance was there. It got me thinking that what if the service wasn’t there, there would always have been that question of what if. We are lucky in a way that we know everything that could have been done to save Willie was done. I would never want any family to have to wonder could their loved one have been saved if the Air Ambulance was there which is why I want to raise money to pay for as many flights as possible to help as many families as possible. I really hope you can support this cause with whatever you can spare. Lets help families and make Willie proud.
