Deaf Academic Bowl Players Need Your Support!

This is a revision as we are getting closer to the date of the competition:

We are Mike and Brenzel, teachers and coaches of the Visual and Performing Arts Deaf Academic Bowl team. Pictured, from left to right, are: Lia Jose, Gaven Li, Angela Ramirez, and Daniela Martinez. We have a unique opportunity to support our Deaf and hard-of-hearing high school students on an enriching adventure. We will be taking our team to the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe to compete against 16 other Deaf/hard of hearing programs from the western region of the U.S. Our ultimate goal is to compete in the national competition at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C., the world's only Liberal Arts University for Deaf and hard of hearing students. Students will compete in a three-day rigorous academic competition while building lifelong friendships with other Deaf/hard of hearing students from the Deaf programs and schools throughout the western regional area of the U.S.

Ms. Brenzel and I are trying to raise funds to allow our students to experience this wonderful trip. We need funds for uniforms, flights, medical insurance, and transportation to and from the Santa Fe International Airport. We are a small program, and raising the money through school is prohibitive. For example, for four students to obtain $1,928, they must raise $3,856.00 because the student body gets 50% of the funds raised. So far, we have spent our money:

Total expenses $1,927.84

Additional Funding needed: $1,527.84

Our students have been practicing and studying during their free time after school. The coaches will no longer receive full financial support from the school; however, we are looking to our dear friends and families to fill the gap and support our Deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
