Support for the Deane Family

Donation protected
Rebecca Deane passed away on July 27, 2019 after a very fast and difficult three week battle with MPNST, a rare and highly aggressive type of sarcoma (cancer) associated with Neurofibromatosis.  In June, she was simply planning her family's summer vacation and helping the kids wrap up the school year.  Three weeks later she was saying goodbye to her husband and children.

Rebecca's life was centered around her family as she raised her three (amazing) kids, Grace (14), Craig (11), and Mark(9).  When we say that Rebecca was a great mother to her kids and a loving wife to her husband, Jeremy, it's the world's biggest understatement.  Rebecca gave her all in everything she did, and her family was no exception.  She and Jeremy raised the kids to love and respect each other, and this was evidenced by how supportive and exceptionally close they were as a family.  Rebecca and Jeremy set the example in the way they treated and cherished one another.

Rebecca also had a very special relationship with Great Barrington, the area of Western Massachusetts where she is from.  She loved telling stories of how she grew up there, and of all of the friends she loved who knew her best.  Rebecca had a strong connection to her roots, and was extremely proud of her family and where she is from.  The Berkshires was always "home" in her mind.

One of Rebecca's favorite things was watching her children do what they love.  For Grace, it's dance.  Craig loves baseball, and Mark loves Tae Kwon Do.  No matter what it was, Rebecca was always there first, camera in hand.  There is a running joke among us Belmont moms that Rebecca made us all look bad.  When most of us were dragging ourselves to yet another extra curricular or school event, Rebecca was always there, in the front row, with a smile on her face.  Her kids were her joy.

Not only did Rebecca fiercely protect and love her own children, she deeply loved others' kids, too.  Every child that knew Rebecca felt safe with her.  She actively kept a watchful eye out for homesickness, bullying, or any other needs, especially when she was with a group of kids and mom or dad wasn't around.

Rebecca loved the community of Belmont and the schools that her kids attended.  We (as her close friends) honestly don't remember a day when we were volunteering at a school event and didn't see Rebecca there, helping out in some capacity.  Field trips, field days, school celebrations, library shelf reads, room mom spots, baking sales, yearbook committees...the list goes on.  We joke that the school should have paid her some sort of salary for all of the volunteer work she did.

The fact that Rebecca was taken away so swiftly has left her family, friends and the entire community of Belmont shocked and heartbroken.

Jeremy, Rebecca's devoted husband, is now left facing the unexpected costs of hiring  care for their children, Rebecca’s hospital bills, the funeral, and the overwhelming task of handling all the costs associated with the various  ways that Rebecca served their family.  In addition, Jeremy and Rebecca's youngest son Mark already requires medical support for his own battle with Neurofibromatosis.  The costs are daunting, and would be for any family in this situation.

Please consider making a donation in Rebecca's honor.  All of us who knew Rebecca believe it's the least we can do to show our gratitude for all of the ways she has touched us, our kids' lives, and the lives of everyone she knew.

Love,

Jenny Kresse, Nina Biggar, and Christine Burke
