Dean’s Medical Expenses From Fractured Femur
Most people hope to have a Memorial Day
weekend they’ll never forget. We did have
one we’ll never forget, but for all the wrong
reasons...
On Saturday May 23rd we were enjoying a
evening with friends when Dean fell
awkwardly while playing. Being only 18
months old Dean falls probably 20 times a day and my wife and I don’t bat an eye, but this one was different. After the fall Dean wouldn’t
stop crying a couldn’t put weight on his left
leg. We and our pediatrician assumed he
sprained his ankle and we were advised to
give him OTC medicine and see how he was in the morning.
None of us got much sleep that night and first
thing in the morning my wife took our ailing
boy to Urgent Care where he was diagnosed
with a spiral fracture of the left femur. Dean
was transported to Atlantic City’s Pediatric
division via ambulance and then took another ambulance ride to the Children’s Hospital of
Philadelphia’s (CHOP) for evaluation.
We spent a night at CHOP and first thing the
next morning Dean went in for surgery to
have a spica cast on and we were released late that afternoon. We are facing a long recovery with physical therapy and many trips back and forth to CHOP as the doctors continue to
monitor how the bone heals.
Unfortunately our health insurance is a high
deductible plan with an out-of-pocket
maximum of $6750 per person.
We’ve been asked by many if there’s anything that they could do to help. We kindly ask that you help us to reach our out of pocket limit so we can focus our attention on Dean’s
recovery.
